THE PIECES

Recognizable by his iconic moustache and ominous demeanour, the notorious Hitler is accompanied by exquisite, highly-ranked officers on either side. They command the crisply dressed pawns, presenting themselves with precision. The rooks and knights are the standout pieces, featuring a stunning tank as the knight and a meticulously crafted building as the rook. Despite the Swiss flag, it is believed that the rook represents the Reichstag Building in Berlin.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the United States' president from 1933 until 1945, leads this American force with unparalleled skill. His second-in-command takes the form of a highly esteemed Sergeant Major of the Army, a prestigious rank reserved for only one individual. The bishop stands tall, surveying the smartly dressed pawns under his command. As always, the rooks and knights catch the eye, with The White House emblazoned with the American flag and a fierce tank in action. These magnificent historical pieces are paired with a stunning 15.75 inch board made of walnut and maple, creating an unparalleled chess set. However, for those who prefer to display the pieces separately, The Hitler vs Roosevelt Second World War Chess Men are also available without the board. In any case, these exquisite pieces make a truly extraordinary gift for any WWII or chess aficionado.

THE HISTORY

As a solemn combat veteran who rarely showed a smile in public or private, Adolf Hitler had a deep distaste for democracy and harbored resentment for Germany's defeat in World War I. Driven by a desire to redeem his country, he imposed his own laws and authority over both the German and Russian people. In pursuit of a lasting legacy, he took his own life after his defeat, blaming the lack of will from his fellow countrymen and even had his remains destroyed to avoid public humiliation. As the threat of World War II grew, President Roosevelt provided crucial support to the UK against the aggressive Nazi regime and to China against Japanese aggression. Despite his efforts to maintain neutrality, the shocking attack on Pearl Harbour led the US to officially declare war on both Japan and Hitler only a few days later.

Despite his disability from polio, his efforts during the war were not just masterful military strategies. As individuals transitioned to wartime factory jobs and military service, unemployment decreased, resulting in a stable and significant economic improvement. Tragically, Roosevelt's declining health during the war years led to his passing just 3 months into his fourth term, causing the world to grieve. He is revered as one of the top three American Presidents, alongside George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
