The doubled bases of the Blackmore Series Chessmen set them apart aesthetically from anything else in the Regency Chess Collection. They truly are a unique and modern take on the classic Staunton design, achieved through an adherence to excellence by our partner craftsmen. The deep recess in the base are one of the many distinctive design elements that set these chessmen apart. The tapered shanks are a neat change from the usual curves of Staunton chess pieces. In this set each piece has been perfectly balanced, with just the correct amount of weight in each base to give them the perfect feel during play.

These beautiful chessmen have been expertly carved from solid sheesham wood and boxwood. Sheesham is a rich exotic wood with deep grains and a lovely golden colour. Its density allows for the carvings of these chessmen to retain extremely fine detail and smoothness, while the opposing boxwood needs no introduction for its premium quality and robustness. The boxwood used in these chessmen has been carefully selected for clean and crisp grains and a pale colour. Such quality in material has allowed for some extremely intricate design. The carving of the knights, for example, is uniform and has been done to an extremely high standard. Their teeth are prominent indeed, resulting in an eccentric, expressive appearance.

Individually, the Blackmore Series Chessmen have a felted base, while the whole set is ideal for a 58.42 cm chess board.
